About the DEWA Bill Estimator
DEWA bills combine several components: slab-rate consumption charges (the more you use, the higher the per-unit rate), a fuel surcharge that moves monthly with fuel prices, and 5% VAT. This calculator estimates your monthly bill from your electricity and water usage. It's useful for sanity-checking a bill that looks unexpectedly high, comparing usage before and after adding appliances like a second AC unit or a pool pump, or budgeting for a new apartment before you've moved in and received a first bill.
How it works
- Electricity and water consumption are each charged on progressive slabs — usage within each band is charged at that band's rate, not the whole amount at the top rate.
- A fuel surcharge is added per kWh and per m³, based on DEWA's published monthly rate.
- 5% VAT is added to the subtotal.
Assumptions and behaviour
- Uses residential slab tariffs — commercial/industrial tariffs differ.
- The fuel surcharge is a snapshot taken from DEWA's published rate at the time this tool was built — DEWA states it varies monthly with fuel prices, so treat it as directional, not exact.
- Doesn't include the fixed housing fee (a flat municipality charge collected via DEWA, based on property type/size) some residents also see on their bill.
Limitations
- Doesn't include the separate housing fee or meter/service charges some accounts carry.
- The fuel surcharge changes monthly — check DEWA's current tariff page for the live figure before relying on this for budgeting.
- Estimates only. Your actual DEWA bill may differ.
