About the vCard QR Code Generator
This creates a QR code that saves your contact details straight into someone's phone when they scan it — no typing your number and email letter by letter. It's ideal on a business card, an email signature, a conference badge, a booth banner, or a slide, so people can add you to their contacts in a couple of taps. You fill in the fields you want to share and download the code.
How it works
The details you enter are assembled into a vCard (version 3.0) — the standard contact format phones understand — and encoded into a QR code in your browser. Supported fields are full name, organisation, job title, phone, email and website. When scanned, a phone offers to create a new contact pre-filled with those details. The code updates live as you type; download it as a PNG to print or embed.
Assumptions and behaviour
- Produces a vCard 3.0 payload, widely supported by iOS and Android contact apps.
- Only the fields you fill in are included — leave a field blank and it's omitted from the card.
- The name is split into given and family parts automatically (first word as the first name, the rest as the surname), which suits most Western names.
- Scanning creates a new contact draft; the person confirms before it's saved.
Limitations
- Capacity is limited. vCards with many long fields make a denser, larger QR code that's harder to scan when printed small — keep to the essentials (name, phone, email) for a clean, reliable code.
- Field coverage is basic. It handles name, org, title, phone, email and URL; it doesn't include a photo, postal address, multiple phone numbers, or social profiles.
- The automatic name split (first word = first name) may not match cultures where the family name comes first or names have multiple parts.
- The details are embedded in the code, so anyone who scans it gets them — fine for a business card, but don't print private details you wouldn't hand out.
Privacy
The QR code is generated entirely in your browser. Your contact details are used only to build the image on your device — they're never uploaded or stored. (The details are readable inside the code, so share it as you would a business card.)
