About the Timezone Converter

This converts a specific date and time from one time zone to another — the tool you need when scheduling a call across countries, catching a live broadcast or launch, coordinating with remote colleagues, or working out what time an event happens where you are. Pick the date and time, the zone it's in, and the zone you want it in, and it shows the converted moment along with the hour difference.

How it works

It uses your browser's built-in Intl time-zone database — the same IANA zone data browsers ship with — so there's no external service to call. The date and time you enter are treated as the wall-clock time in the "from" zone, converted to the underlying UTC instant (with a two-pass calculation so daylight-saving transitions are handled correctly), then formatted in the "to" zone. The from-zone defaults to your device's own time zone.

Assumptions and behaviour

  • Daylight saving is applied automatically based on the zone and date — convert a July date and a January date between the same two zones and the difference can change.
  • The full IANA time-zone list is offered where your browser supports it (most modern browsers), with a common-zones fallback otherwise.
  • The entered time is interpreted as the local wall-clock time in the "from" zone.
  • It shows both the converted date/time and the hour offset between the two zones for that moment.

Limitations

  • It depends on your browser's time-zone data, which reflects the DST and offset rules known when the browser was built. Very recent or future government changes to a zone's rules may not be included until the browser updates.
  • Ambiguous or skipped local times around a DST changeover (the hour that repeats or doesn't exist) can be genuinely undefined; the tool resolves them consistently but such edge cases are inherently tricky.
  • It converts a chosen moment; it isn't a live world clock, and it doesn't schedule or send reminders.
  • Historical dates use the browser's best-known rules, which may differ from obscure historical offsets.

Privacy

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using built-in time-zone data. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Frequently asked questions

Is this timezone converter free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no limits, runs in your browser.

Does it need an internet connection or API?

No. It uses your browser's built-in Intl time-zone database, so conversion works offline with no external service.

Does it handle daylight saving time?

Yes, automatically. The offset is calculated for the specific date you enter, so summer and winter conversions differ correctly.

Which time zones can I choose?

The full IANA time-zone list in browsers that support it (most modern ones), covering cities and regions worldwide, with a common-zones fallback otherwise.

What time zone does the entered time use?

It's read as the local wall-clock time in the 'from' zone, which defaults to your device's own time zone.

Could a conversion ever be wrong?

It relies on the browser's time-zone data, so very recent or future changes to a country's DST rules may not be reflected until the browser updates. Ambiguous times during a DST changeover are also inherently tricky.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
