About the Passport Photo Maker

This crops and sizes a photo to the exact pixel dimensions used for official passport and ID photos, so you can print your own instead of paying a booth or studio. Pick your country's format, fit your photo to it, choose a background, and download a correctly-sized image. Because everything happens on your device, your photo — a sensitive personal document — never gets uploaded to anyone's server.

How it works

You choose a country preset and the tool sets the canvas to the right pixel size at 300 DPI (print resolution). Supported presets include:

  • US — 2 × 2 in (600 × 600px)
  • UK / EU / India / Australia — 35 × 45 mm (413 × 531px)
  • Canada — 50 × 70 mm (590 × 826px)

You position your photo with cover (fill the frame, cropping overflow) or contain (fit the whole photo, padding with a background colour you choose). It also offers a printable sheet so you can print several copies on one 4×6 or A4 page.

Assumptions and behaviour

  • Output is at the correct pixel dimensions for 300 DPI printing, the standard print resolution for ID photos.
  • Cover crops to fill the exact frame; contain fits the whole image with a chosen background (useful for a plain white backdrop).
  • Presets cover the common international sizes; the 35 × 45 mm size is shared by the UK, EU, India, Australia and many others.
  • A printable multi-photo sheet is available to save on printing.

Limitations

  • It sizes and crops; it doesn't check official compliance. Passport authorities have strict rules — head size and position within the frame, a neutral expression, eyes open, no glasses glare, a plain light background, even lighting. This tool gives you the right dimensions, but you must ensure the photo itself meets your country's requirements, or it may be rejected.
  • It doesn't remove or replace the background automatically; the contain mode adds a flat colour behind a fitted photo, but it can't cut you out of a busy background.
  • Print quality depends on your printer and paper; a home printout may not match a professional photo print.
  • Requirements change and vary by country — always check the official current guidance before relying on a printed photo.

Privacy

Everything runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Your photo — a sensitive personal document — is never uploaded or stored; it stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this passport photo maker free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no limits, runs in your browser.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. It's processed entirely on your device with the Canvas API and never uploaded — important for a sensitive ID photo.

Which sizes does it support?

US 2×2 in (600×600), the 35×45 mm size used by the UK, EU, India and Australia (413×531), and Canada 50×70 mm (590×826), all at 300 DPI.

Will my photo definitely be accepted?

It gives you the correct dimensions, but it doesn't verify compliance. You must ensure the photo meets your country's rules — head size and position, neutral expression, plain background, even lighting — or it may be rejected.

Can it change the background to plain white?

The 'contain' mode places your photo on a flat background colour, but it can't cut you out of a busy background — start with a photo taken against a plain wall.

Can I print several on one sheet?

Yes. There's a printable sheet option so you can fit multiple copies on a 4×6 or A4 page.

Why does it use 300 DPI?

300 DPI is the standard print resolution for ID photos, so the pixel dimensions produce a correctly-sized print.
