About the Color Picker from Image
This is an eyedropper for any image: load a photo, screenshot or design, click a spot, and it tells you the exact colour there as a HEX and RGB value. Designers and developers use it to match a brand colour from a logo, sample a shade from a reference photo, pull a palette out of an image, or recover the colour of something in a screenshot when they don't have the original file.
How it works
Your image is drawn onto a canvas at full resolution. When you click, the tool reads the exact pixel at that point and reports its colour two ways — as a HEX code (like #3f7ac2) and as RGB values — with a swatch preview. Because the canvas holds the image at native resolution, the click maps to the true pixel even if the image is displayed scaled to fit your screen.
Assumptions and behaviour
- It samples the single pixel you click, at the image's native resolution.
- Colours are reported as both HEX and RGB, with a live swatch.
- Works on any image the browser can open — photos, screenshots, exported graphics.
- The displayed image may be scaled to fit, but the sampled colour comes from the actual underlying pixel.
Limitations
- It reads one exact pixel, not an average of an area — clicking a spot with noise, JPEG artefacts or anti-aliasing gives that precise pixel's colour, which may differ slightly from the surrounding colour you meant. Zoom in or try a cleaner area for an accurate sample.
- JPEG compression shifts colours subtly, so a sampled value from a compressed photo may not exactly match the original design's colour.
- It reports HEX and RGB; it doesn't give HSL, CMYK or Pantone equivalents.
- It samples colours; it doesn't build a full palette automatically.
Privacy
Everything runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded or stored.
