About the Random Number Generator
This picks random whole numbers within a range you set — for prize draws and giveaways, choosing a winner or a sample, assigning teams or slots, rolling dice or picking lottery-style numbers, or seeding a decision fairly. You control the minimum and maximum, how many numbers to draw, whether they must all be unique (no repeats), and whether to sort the result.
How it works
Numbers come from your browser's cryptographically secure random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), using rejection sampling to map the raw random bits onto your range without bias — so every value from the minimum to the maximum is genuinely equally likely (a subtle point many simple generators get wrong). The range is inclusive of both ends. For unique draws it removes each number as it's picked, like drawing from a hat, guaranteeing no repeats. You can request up to 1,000 numbers, and optionally sort them ascending.
Assumptions and behaviour
- The range is inclusive — both the minimum and maximum can be drawn.
- Randomness is secure and unbiased thanks to rejection sampling, so results are fair for draws and sampling.
- If you enter the minimum above the maximum, the two are swapped automatically.
- Unique mode draws without replacement (no repeats); normal mode allows the same number more than once.
- Sorting, when enabled, orders the output ascending.
Limitations
- Unique mode needs enough range. You can't draw more unique numbers than the range contains (you can't pick 50 unique numbers from 1–10); the tool flags this rather than looping forever.
- It generates whole numbers (integers) only — no decimals or fractional values.
- The count is capped at 1,000 per draw.
- 'Random' means each result is independent, so patterns and repeats can appear in non-unique mode — that's genuine randomness, not a fault.
Privacy
Numbers are generated entirely in your browser with its built-in crypto. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored.
