About the Scientific Calculator

This is a full scientific calculator for the maths a basic calculator can't handle — trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, factorials and constants like π and e. It's built for students, engineers, and anyone doing science or advanced maths who needs these functions without hunting for a physical calculator. Build an expression with the buttons and it shows a live result as you go, plus the final answer when you press equals.

How it works — the functions

  • Trigonometry: sin, cos and tan, with a DEG/RAD toggle so angles are read in degrees or radians (degrees by default).
  • Logarithms: ln (natural log, base e) and log (base 10).
  • Powers and roots: xʸ for any power and √ for square root.
  • Factorial: n! for whole numbers.
  • Constants: π and e.
  • Plus parentheses for grouping and the four basic operations.

Expressions follow the standard order of operations (parentheses, powers, then multiply/divide, then add/subtract), and the result previews live as you build it.

Assumptions and behaviour

  • Trig mode defaults to degrees; tap DEG/RAD to switch — this is the setting people most often get caught out by.
  • log is base 10 and ln is base e, the usual convention.
  • Standard operator precedence and parentheses apply.
  • Results are shown to about 12 significant figures and cleaned up for display.

Limitations

  • Check the DEG/RAD mode before trusting a trig result — sin(90) is 1 in degrees but about 0.894 in radians.
  • It uses standard floating-point arithmetic, so results can carry tiny rounding errors (a value that should be exactly 0 may show as a minuscule number).
  • It's a calculator, not a computer-algebra system — no symbolic algebra, equation solving, matrices, complex numbers, or graphing.
  • Factorials are for non-negative whole numbers and grow huge quickly (beyond about 170! the result exceeds what can be represented).

Frequently asked questions

Is this scientific calculator free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no limits, runs in your browser.

Does it do trigonometry in degrees or radians?

Both. It defaults to degrees; tap the DEG/RAD toggle to switch. Always check the mode, since sin(90) is 1 in degrees but ~0.894 in radians.

What's the difference between log and ln?

log is base 10 and ln is the natural log (base e). Both are available as separate buttons.

Can it do powers, roots and factorials?

Yes — xʸ for any power, √ for square root, and n! for factorials of whole numbers, plus the constants π and e.

Does it follow order of operations?

Yes. It uses standard precedence — parentheses, then powers, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction — so you can type natural expressions.

Can it solve equations or draw graphs?

No. It's a numeric scientific calculator, not a computer-algebra or graphing system — no symbolic algebra, matrices or plots.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
