About the Image Rotator
This rotates a photo — a quarter-turn to fix a sideways phone picture, or any custom angle to straighten a wonky horizon or tilt an image for effect. It's the fast fix for photos that came out in the wrong orientation, scanned documents that need squaring up, or any image you want turned. Set the angle and download the rotated result.
How it works
The image is redrawn onto a canvas rotated by your chosen angle. Crucially, the canvas is resized to fit the rotated image, so nothing gets clipped off at the corners — the whole picture is preserved at any angle. You can spin it to 90°, 180°, 270°, or any value in between, and download the result as a PNG (which keeps the transparent corners that a non-right-angle rotation creates).
Assumptions and behaviour
- The output canvas grows to contain the whole rotated image, so corners are never cut off.
- Right-angle rotations (90/180/270°) keep a rectangular result with no empty space.
- Any other angle leaves triangular gaps at the corners; these are transparent in the PNG output.
- The download is a PNG, preserving transparency.
Limitations
- Non-90° rotations add transparent corners. Because the image is tilted inside a larger rectangle, the exposed corners are empty (transparent) — if you need a clean rectangle, crop afterwards.
- Rotating by a fine angle resamples the pixels, which softens fine detail very slightly (right-angle turns are lossless).
- It outputs PNG, so a rotated photo won't be as small as a JPG — compress or convert afterwards if size matters.
- It rotates the whole image; it doesn't auto-detect and straighten a horizon for you.
Privacy
Rotation runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded or stored.
