About JSON to CSV

This turns JSON — typically an array of objects from an API or export — into CSV that opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. It's the bridge between a developer format and a spreadsheet: pulling API data into a sheet for analysis, handing structured data to non-technical colleagues, or preparing a JSON dump for a system that imports CSV. Paste the JSON and copy or download the CSV.

How it works

The JSON is parsed, and a single object is treated as a one-row array. The tool scans every object and builds the column list from the union of all keys, in first-seen order — so if some records have fields others don't, every field still gets a column. Each object becomes a row; a missing field is left blank. Values are written with proper CSV quoting: any cell containing a comma, quote or line break is wrapped in double quotes, with internal quotes doubled (RFC-4180 style). Nested objects or arrays in a value are serialised as JSON text inside the cell.

Assumptions and behaviour

  • Input is expected to be a JSON array of objects (or a single object, which becomes one row).
  • Columns are the union of all keys across the records, so uneven objects are handled — absent values become empty cells.
  • Nested objects/arrays are kept as JSON strings in their cell, not flattened into extra columns.
  • Commas, quotes and newlines inside values are correctly escaped so the CSV stays valid.

Limitations

  • It doesn't flatten nested structures. A value that is itself an object or array is embedded as JSON text in one cell rather than exploded into separate columns — deeply nested data won't become a tidy table automatically.
  • It expects objects; an array of plain values or deeply irregular JSON won't map cleanly to rows and columns.
  • Column order follows the first object's keys then any new keys as they appear; it doesn't sort or let you choose column order.
  • Very large JSON is processed in memory, so huge datasets depend on your device.

Privacy

Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your JSON and the resulting CSV never leave your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this JSON to CSV tool free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no limits, runs in your browser.

What JSON shape does it expect?

An array of objects works best — each object becomes a row. A single object is treated as one row.

What if some objects have different keys?

Columns are built from the union of all keys, so every field gets a column and missing values become empty cells.

How are nested objects handled?

A value that's itself an object or array is written as JSON text inside its cell — it isn't flattened into separate columns.

Will commas and quotes in my data break the CSV?

No. Cells containing commas, quotes or line breaks are wrapped in double quotes with internal quotes doubled, following the CSV standard.

Can I download the result?

Yes — copy it to the clipboard or download it as a .csv file ready for Excel or Google Sheets.

Is my JSON uploaded?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent or stored.
