About the UAE VAT Calculator
The UAE applies a standard 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) to most goods and services, administered by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) since VAT began on 1 January 2018. This calculator works both ways — add VAT to a price that excludes it, or work out how much VAT is already baked into a VAT-inclusive price. Useful for quoting a price to a customer, checking a supplier invoice, or working out the pre-tax cost of something you've already paid for.
How it works
Adding VAT (price excludes VAT):
VAT amount = price × 5%
Total = price + VAT amount
Removing VAT (price includes VAT):
Net price = price ÷ 1.05
VAT amount = price − net price
For example, a AED 1,000 price excluding VAT becomes AED 1,050 once VAT is added (AED 50 VAT). A AED 1,050 VAT-inclusive price breaks down to a AED 1,000 net price and AED 50 VAT.
Assumptions and behaviour
- Uses the UAE's standard 5% VAT rate, which applies to most goods and services.
- Doesn't distinguish zero-rated (e.g. certain exports, international transport) or exempt categories (e.g. some financial services, residential rent for first supply) — these don't carry 5% VAT.
Limitations
- Doesn't check whether your specific good or service is zero-rated or exempt — apply this calculator only to standard-rated supplies.
- Estimates only — not tax advice. Confirm with the Federal Tax Authority or a tax consultant for your specific transaction.
Privacy
The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
