This is a rough ballpark only, not a real quote. Actual health insurance premiums depend on the specific ages and health of everyone covered, the exact plan, co-pay clauses, riders, insurer-specific pricing, and your exact city/pincode — and can differ substantially from this estimate. About the Health Insurance Premium Estimator

Health insurance premiums in India vary a lot by age, sum insured, city, family size and health history. This tool gives a very rough, indicative ballpark of what an annual premium might look like, based on the eldest member's age, desired sum insured, family floater size, city tier and whether anyone has a pre-existing condition, so you have a starting point before getting real quotes.

How it works

  • Enter the eldest member's age, desired sum insured, number of people covered under the family floater, your city tier, and whether anyone has a pre-existing condition.
  • The calculator applies a simple age-banded base rate to the sum insured, scales it for additional family members, applies a city-tier loading (metro cities generally cost more to insure), and applies a pre-existing-condition loading if applicable, to estimate an annual premium.

Assumptions and behaviour

  • Uses a simplified age-banded base rate as a percentage of sum insured, which only roughly approximates typical health plan pricing in India.
  • Each additional family member beyond the first adds a partial loading rather than a full multiple, reflecting how family floater pricing typically works.
  • Applies a city-tier loading: Tier 1 (metro) costs more than Tier 2, which costs more than Tier 3, reflecting higher claim costs in metros.
  • Applies a flat pre-existing-condition loading of roughly 1.3x when selected.
  • Does not account for specific medical conditions, individual member ages within a floater, insurer-specific underwriting, co-pay clauses, or riders — all of which materially affect real premiums.

Limitations

This is a rough ballpark estimate only — not a real insurance quote. Actual health insurance premiums are set by each insurer's own underwriting and depend heavily on the specific ages and health of everyone covered, the insurer, the exact plan and add-ons, co-pay terms, and your city/pincode. Real premiums can differ substantially from this estimate. Always get actual quotes from an insurer, broker, or a licensed aggregator before buying.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real insurance quote?

No. This is a rough, indicative ballpark estimate only, based on a simplified age, sum-insured, family-size and city heuristic. Real premiums are set through an insurer's own underwriting and can differ substantially. Always get an actual quote from an insurer or aggregator before buying.

Is this calculator free?

Yes — free, no sign-up, no limits, runs in your browser.

Why is my estimate different from a real insurer quote?

Real premiums depend on many factors this simple calculator doesn't model — the specific ages and health of every covered member, the exact plan, co-pay clauses, riders, insurer-specific pricing, and your exact city/pincode. Treat this as a starting ballpark, not a final number.

How much health cover do I need?

A common starting point is ₹5-10 lakh per person in smaller cities and ₹10-25 lakh or more in metros, given rising healthcare costs — but your ideal cover depends on your city, family health history, and budget.

Does a pre-existing condition really increase premiums that much?

Yes — insurers typically load premiums for pre-existing conditions and may also apply a waiting period before covering them. The exact loading and waiting period vary by insurer and condition.
